After 30 seconds of work required in setting my Home Security alarm system I head to the car for a trip downtown to the famous town movie theater. It is famous because it shows classic films, specializing in a different actor or actress every week. This week is a treat. Steve McQueen is featured.

I had to choose between 2 of his many great films to see. It was a tough decision. I decided on The Cincinnati Kid with Edward G. Robinson. Love him as a card shark and it was a relaxing time. The second feature I was able to view was Nevada Smith. As westerns go, only John Wayne is comparable. This was a fine film that I sat through twice.

Classic films can be seen at home, but for a change of pace it is essential to get out of the home once in a while. Only recently I got into the habit of watching the old films. With less technology involved, the acting had to be better and I believe it was. I am already planning my next 2 choices of films once I determine who is the star actor or actress featured.

Owning a credit card can be a boon or a bane, depending on how you use it. If you are careful and prudent with your spending then having secured credit cards may prove to be an advantage and blessing. You don’t have to carry wads of cash in your wallet to purchase big items. Students who are overseas can use their student credit cards to pay for their school fees and to buy the daily essentials like food to cook. As they have limited cash to spend, they should even be more cautious with their purchases.

You can check out the various credit card offers for the best deal. It was reported recently in the press that many bankrupts here are due to overspending using credit cards amongst young working adults in the ages of 24 to 35. As these yuppies are fashionable and tend to follow the Joneses, they will not hesitate to buy expensive gadgets like iPhones, or the latest smart phones to catch up with their peers.

Hence, parents should teach their young how to manage their finances from small and to save more than they spend. Their kids should have a piggy bank each to put their savings in every month and learn the habit of saving. This will eventually produce financially responsible adults later on and not bankrupts!

For a business to suceed, you need to spend some money on advertisement with an advertising agency. After all, advertisement is the life blook fo all businesses, be they online or even offline. You need to spread the word around about your business and the only fast way is via an advertising agency which will do the promotion for you. You also need to check out the prices of the various companies offering this services for the best deal.

Advertisements can be in the form of distributing flyers or pamphlets such as those commonly seen in Gurney Plaza near the escalators, or in the form of banners that are put up near the shop lots. Hence it only makes sense for online businesses to turn to online advertisement companies to do the promotion via the internet. Technologies that are already put in place like Adwords will promote your web site or blogs to thousands of viewers around the world when they click on the link based on key word search on the eponymous search engine like Google. There is also Yahoo Publisher Network or abbreviated as YPN for Americans to publish on their web sites the advertisers’ links and get paid a certain commision.

Advertisements are a form of business investments and you need to put aside some money once in a while for this purpose. There are people with extra cash to spend and advertise regularly with the various platforms and advertising companies. With all the hard work and money spend, eventually, you will reap the profits and see results. So, this is a win-win basis for both the publisher and advertiser.

Tomorrow my colleague will be going to Sg. Petani to meet up with a client and then will decide when to go to KL for business again sometime this week. I have travelled down to KL umpteen times and thank God, no accidents or bad things happen to us while travelling on the North-South Highway. There were a few instances where we could have met an accident, but God has been protecting us and the business. That’s why I need to pray constantly as I can never take my safety and protection for granted. Luckily, my colleague is a Christian and realizes the importance of prayer for journey mercies and business success.

I know HTML but not XML which is a generated file. Since I received some errors in the XML file, I have to get help soon and immediately while I still remember the steps. So, went to a freelancer site and was shocked to find that the system has changed and my USD30 for work done in the past was gone together with the old site. But my profile still remains. This company cheated me of USD30 that is rightfully mine for work done in the past and I could not withdraw it until I hit USD50. So, don’t ever go to getafreelancer.com which charges a whopping USD19.95 just to list a project and then deducts a minimal amount for its charges. This is a scam! Had I waited for my hosting company to solve the problem, I would have saved USD60 in a day!

If you don’t have enough money to invest in gold bars, then you might want to consider opening a gold investment savings account (GSA) with your bank if they provide such services in the first place. Gold is a good hedge against inflation and the price keeps increasing for the last 10 years from statistics. From a price of $20 a gram in the 1970s, the price has shot up to $130 a gram now. That is why I invested some cash to open a GSA account early this year and the profits can only be withdrawn at least 1 year later. Right now, I have a gold coin of half ounce, some gold jewellery like bangle, necklace, earrings, ring and pendant and they are my prized possesion since I first owned them.

Scrubs are basically medical or dental uniforms that doctors and surgeons wear before attending to a patient or before surgery. There is a site that sells scrubs of various designs and prints like hot pink scrubs, women’s scrub hats and also earrings collection. Printed scrubs is in fashion and top notch hospitals will invest and order in bulk for their medical professionals. Nurses may also dorn such scrubs when they assist the surgeons in any surgeries.

They make eye candy and look pleasing beside being innovative in their various styles. From plain single color designs to printed designs, scrubs make a great attire for surgeries. Patients who see their doctors wearing them will inadvertent like it and place more trusts in their medical professionals. For myself, I would love seeing my doctor taking the bother to wear printed scrubs before attending to me and these small things certainly speaks volumes on the efforts put in by the medical centres or hospitals.

This is just like bringing in fashion to the medical wards where both the patients and surgeons interact prior to a surgery. Children will certainly love to see the printed designs of many colors and be attracted to the eye-catching scrubs. This is one of the ways to bring in repeat customers and to ensure a happy patient.

It has been discovered that Oregano Oil may protect against drug-resistant bacteria. With so much abuse of using anti-biotics, the result is more drug-resistant bacteria that have mutated and we need stronger doses of drugs to counteract them. According to statistics, one billion people in the world are currently Vitamin D deficient and they might need Bio D-Mulsion to replace the deficiency.

As for now, I am relying on taking multi-vitamins, spirulina, gingko biloba, vitamin C and Omega-3 fatty acids to maintain a good health. Since I don’t exercise, I have to be more disciplined in my diet to maintain a healthy BMI. At the moment, I am a bit overweight due to good food every day. Hence, now I am trying to eat less and trim down the slight port belly. You can never take your good health for granted.

Since I hate exercise, I burn the calories by working with the computer in my home office. This takes up much of my time doing work and needs concentration to type out articles and blogging plus working for my boss in his sports building business in Penang. Sometimes, I need to scan documents and bank TT payments to email to our suppliers to expedite the export to us. This results in bringing continuous work for our workers who are paid by daily wages for work done to install sports courts all over Malaysia.

DEMAND has been strong for Sime Darby Property Bhd’s RM1 billion Oasis Square project, the central business district of the Ara Damansara township in Selangor.

It has three 12-storey corporate office towers; five blocks of 10- to 12-storey retail outlets and office suites, called The Capital; two 10-storey serviced apartments, named Oasis Serviced Suites; and double-storey food and beverage kiosks with 15 outlets.

Managing director Datuk Tunku Putra Badlishah Tunku Annuar said the project has recorded impressive take-up rates since the launch of phases 1, 2 and 3 last year.

All the 288 shop-offices in Blocks A and B under phase one of The Capital development are sold. The take-up for Blocks C and D under phase three is 86 per cent and 93 per cent respectively.

Block E, which has some 88 units, is targeted to be launched in the last quarter of this year.

“The need for office space in prime locations is evident from the swift take-up of the business units,” Tunku Putra Badlishah said.

The serviced apartment blocks with 326 units are 99 per cent sold at between RM440 and RM503 per sq ft. They were snapped up less than a year after its launch in April and May last year.

The one-bedroom studios, two- and 2+1 bedroom units range between 572 sq ft and 1,108 sq ft.

Upcoming launches include the Oasis Corporate Park, a mixed commercial development comprising office towers, retail space, serviced apartments, a hotel and a convention centre which is still in the planning stage.

Key products in the 306ha Ara Damansara project, launched in 1999, include the 400 resort condominium units under Ara Hill, the Seri Pilmoor semi-detached houses and bungalows, and the Ara Damansara Linear City.

Sime Darby Property has sold some 3,123 mixed development units, including double-storey link-houses, double-story semi-detached houses, bungalows, low- to medium-cost apartments and high-end condominiums.

This guest post from Efren Gill

As far as I’m concerned, grocery shopping is a necessary evil that’s almost worth hiring a personal assistant – but the econo-budget we started back in April doesn’t allow for that.

So, tired of shopping alone, I’m turning some of the less-than-thrilling aspects of groceries into a lesson in teamwork for the kids. Making a list has turned into an handwriting exercise for my eight-year-old, Adam, while my daughters, Ada, 6 and Adelaide, 4, have a coupon-cutting art project extravaganza. Bonus points: how cute is it to hand the cashiers a heart-shaped 40 cents off toilet paper, or a 75 cents off cookies flower?

After cleaning up lots of paper scraps, we suited up today, grabbed the list, and headed out to the garage. I buckled the excitable trio into the car, set the security choice alarm system, and off we headed to the land of lunchmeat and perishables.

Each of the kids got a job – Adam reads the list, while Adelaide is in charge of scouting out the items while we walk down the aisles. Ada has the all-important duty of organizing the cart (she’s her mother’s daughter – careful not to put anything on top of the bread!), while I veto overtly-sugary products that loom from every corner. It’s become quite the team-building exercise, and is now something we all look forward to.

I was watching Miss Universe on Astro yesterday together with my family. It was held in Las Vegas where I have been in 1998 at my own expense after quiting my job. Miss Mexico, dressed in studding red evening gown finally clinched the coveted title from last year’s Miss Universe from Venezuela. As usual, Donald Trump, the property magnate was there – and being the head honcho of the programme. Now I am busy but very happy! I just got paid to write an article for 500 words for a local client who is a eBayer and now in the process of writing the third article. All payments are via Paypal and it is easy peasy. I am happy I took up Computer Technology in Singapore albeit the difficult years but now it pays off.

I used to spend a lot of time watching direct tv at home with the various feel good channels like comedies and documentaries. There are hundreds of channels to choose from and you will be spoilt for choice. By watching direct tv in the comforts of your home, you save money and time plus parking fees to watch movies at the cinemas where you have to queue up just to buy yourself a movie ticket. And it is not cheap either.

By subscribing to direct tv, you can switch from channel to channel like news, operas, entertainment, etc with the flick of the remote control. And you can watch together with your family and friends at home in your pajamas. It is even more cozy to watch at home where you have your large sofa to lie down while munching potato chips.

I have watched many movies and I have lost count of. With high definition screen, the shows will look like the cinemas – clear and crisp with good color saturation. You can also invest in a massage chair at home so that you can turn on the controls and get a good massage while watching your favorite movie at home. This is a common part time of most people especially retirees who have plenty of time on their side and the children have left the nest.

I am currently in KL for business and yesterday, went to a club to attend to the tennis courts that we are installing at the moment. I was in the library and for about 3 hours, managed to read quite a lot of reading materials like The Star newspapers and Small Business in Malaysia magazine. I also came across interesting articles of the highest paid directors in Malaysia with Genting’s Director being paid the most at around RM87 million per year. That is certainly very exorbitant and I wonder how could the share holders allow the director to be paid so much at their expense for less profits. Dr Mahathir’s son Mukriz Mahathir earns quite a lot at RM2 million per year selling petroluem for his company Kencana Petroleum. Obviously they source the petrol from Petronas that is reserved for umnoputras like him. Both the Chinese and Indians lose out in getting part of the economic pie from Petronas because of the stupid policy that gives everything to the Malays.

If I have the money, I will go for an overseas vacation to Myrtle Beach in USA. With long sandy white beaches, the towers at Myrtle Beach are very affordable with their units, 1 to 3-bedroom condominium, each with a private balcony to view the splendour of the beach. You will have plenty of fresh Atlantic coastal breeze with palm trees swaying to the gentle wind from the oceans.

When I have the spare cash to spend in my retirement, I hope to stay at the www.towersatnorthmyrtlebeach.com and enjoy a relaxing seafront overseas vacation with plenty of frollicking in the sun and building sand castles. It is good to spend some money after years of working hard and splurge now and then. When I retire, I will have plenty of time on my side to enjoy the pleasures of life while living out my golden years.

For the avid golfers, it is the place to be to enjoy that round of golf at an 18-hole golf course with signature designs by world renown designers. Myrtle Beach is one of the happening places in the world to be for any golfers with deep pockets. And you will not come disappointed to this marvellous place.

My international passport expires in November this year. So I need to renew it soon before the expiry date. I have not decided when to renew it yet. Or I might just tag along with me second sister as she too needs to renew her international passport which expires in February. Since she works in Suchou, China, she has to renew it now while she is back home – 6 months before the expiry date. We both might go together to kill two birds in one stone and renew our passports together. I just realize how important it is to have our passports intact with us as it allows us to travel anytime any where. There are about 200,000 bankrupts in Malaysia and their passports are all impounded and they cannot travel overseas. So, they have to stay in Malaysia and work here – cannot enjoy travelling to other parts of the world.
