Today is a Saturday and it is time for my weekend hotel stay. I have not decided which hotel to stay yet, but last week, I was in Vistana Hotel in Bayan Lepas, and before that in Cititel Hotel in town. Vistana hotel is near to Max, a famous ‘tim sum’ restaurant which is always crowded with diners. I love the almost crusted fish ball and ‘har kau’. Normally I will order the ginseng with bamboo shoots tea in this new ‘tim sum’ restaurant. Cititel hotel is near to Chinese Gardenview restaurant serving delicious Chinese food. I dined here once before and the food was not too bad. It also depends on vacancy and whether is it peak season during the holidays that we are able to get a room for today.

For the first time, I stayed in Sunway Hotel near Macalister Road and KOMTAR. It cost RM190 per night without breakfast. The furnishings were modern and upgraded. However, upon walking near the lift on the 12th floor, there was strong smell of cigarette without any sign of smoke seen nearby. I thought people were not allowed to smoke in an air-con building. But not so in Malaysia. They smoke like a chimney, air-con or not in shopping malls, hotels and in restaurants.

Just outside Sunway Hotel were a lot of eating stalled and food ‘kopi tiams’ or food cafes for my overseas readers. I ordered fried fish cutlets with fried mee suah and 10 sticks of chicken satay. This is a food paradise for many locals. You can seen the place buzzing with diners and many hawker stalls selling various local food. The Chinese are a eating lot. Wherever you see hawker stalls, there you will find plenty of Chinese eating away. And since they are hardworking and richer, why not?

Last night was my second time staying in Cititel Hotel for the weekend. The first time we went there, there was a complimentary snack from 5:00pm to 8:00pm for first time clients. The amount of RM195 per night comes with free buffet breakfast. The breakfast has a lot of varieties from the usual nasi lemak with fried fish, salad, toast, muffins, scrambled eggs, baked beans, miso soup to pau and dim sum. I would rate it a 5 star hotel as it has a small swimming pool, steam bath and sauna. There is also a mini theatre reeling a Chinese show. The gym was equipped with exercise stations and weights but there was no one exercising when I was there. I think most of the Penangites rather look for food than exercising away the flabs. The room was small but cosy with the best best, linen and pillows. We got a good view of St. Joseph’s Orphanage with plenty of trees surrounding it. I could see most of the orphans are Indian kids running around.

Yesterday, I had a good rest after coming back from Penang’s City Bayview Hotel. At around RM187 per night with buffet breakfast included, the price is reasonable. But one thing I don’t like is the parking area. I had to walk out to the lift, and from 4th floor go to 2nd floor and then walk out some distance to the hotel lift. Then from the hotel lift only can I go to the ground floor of the hotel lounge and reception area. We had to ask for directions and got lost while going to the lobby from the car park. Other than that, the rest like the rooms was fine and food was ok.

The weekend has arrived. It is time for me to choose a hotel in Penang to stay for 1 night provided there is vacancy. Last week, after coming back from KL, I did not go to any other hotels but stayed at home and slept under my silk comforter which I bought from China. It was so comfortable that I chose to stay at home instead. The week before, I stayed in Dorsett Hotel very near to Giant Supermarket. I have taken photos of the room but did not find the time to put them up in my blogs. I am excited as it means a restful time for me.

I have just faxed over my credit card details for booking Northam All Suite Hotel on the 28th July 2007. It is on offer for RM190 for 1 room studio suite king. The normal price is in the range of RM400-RM500 per room. Since today is a public holiday, Penang Govenor’s birthday on a Saturday, the rooms are all fully occupied up to next week. So the following week, there is a vacancy and I took the opportunity to book early so that I can stay here for the weekend.

orchids
This photo was taken some time ago, about 3 weeks back in the lobby of the hotel that we stayed. Aren’t the purple orchids beautiful? There are so many of them here in the lobby of the hotel by the staircase.

salad
Here is the salad spread for the buffet breakfast downstairs in the hotel. There were many choices of veges, cream and Japanese food corner with the well known Japanese seaweed for the miso soup.

orchid
This photo was taken at the breakfast table during my weekend stay in a beach hotel. The pink gels provide moisture for the otherwise dried white orchid.

mushroom-breakfast
Here is my breakfast of mushrooms stir-fried with thick sauce, grilled tomatoes and some potatoes.

lobby
This is the lobby and I took the opportunity to take this shot while waiting for my friend.

happy-fathers-day-stage
It was on a Sunday on Father’s day where we stayed in this place, Hydro Majestic Hotel in Batu Ferringhi, Penang.

fruits
This is part of the decoration and the faux fruits makes the breakfast buffet spread attractive.

ambience
Here is the ambience of the restaurant of Hydro Majestic Hotel in Penang. The hotel has just been refurbished and renovation is still ongoing. After the renovation is completed, the price of stay will definitely increase. In this photo, you can see the new vertical striped round sofas for more comfortable dining experience. The interior decoration is awesome.

The photo above was taken in the lobby of the hotel which I stayed yesterday for the weekend. The yellow and orange orchids certainly look welcoming to guests.

Here is the brightly lit chandelier that decorates the lobby of this hotel in Penang.

This is the cozy bed with double cushions for per person. This is the only hotel with feather soft pillows and duvet. Oh, forgot to turn on the light on the left side of the bed.

This photo was taken of the bathroom with free samples of shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, body lotion and the biggest soaps that I have seen given in a hotel. The soaps smelled of fresh lavendar and apparently are high quality stuffs not in any other hotel.

Here is the drinks section where you can make your own tea, coffee and 2 complimentary bottles of water were given. There were 4 types of free tea sachets – green tea, Cameron Highlands tea, english breakfast tea and jasmine tea.

This is the view of the hotel room. On the right side is the putting green with real turf while the left side, (not visible in this shot), was the swimming pool with deck chairs. As the swimming pool was on the further end of the view from the hotel room, I did not snap any photos.

I hope you enjoyed my collection of photos of my weekend stay in another hotel in Penang.

Crystal Crown Hotel - Final Part
The photo above shows the drinks cabinet with sachets of tea, coffee, sugar and cream powder. You can boil your own water and make a cup of mocha or chinese tea. This drinks cabinet was taken in another section of the room near the entrance to the door.

Dining table view
The next morning, we had our buffet breakfast and this photo was taken from our dining table. We get a good view of the hotel lobby of Crystal Crown with its faux gold plated railings.
