Today is Hari Raya and is a public holiday. I would like to take this opportunity to wish my muslim readers Selamat Hari Raya. I still continue to work even though it is a public holiday and have scanned many copies of brochures for the client just now and converted them to PDF format for faster retrieval. There were more than 10 files emailed out this morning to 3 different clients. By the way, Hari Raya is a time of get together and a time of forgiveness. All muslims alike will share home baked cakes and cookies in this festive season. The favorites are lemang, bubur lambuk, apom, kambing bakar, ikan masak merah, etc. Many hotels are whipping up halal food for this occasion with special discounts.

I was sifting through old photos when I found cakes taken in Dorsett Hotel buffet. It was a treat by my youngest sister when she recently joined Oriental Rewards as a member. With this membership, you can dine at half price and stay in hotels in Asia at discounted prices. Above is a strawberry cake on a nice pretty plate.

Here is a fruit cake set on a glass plate. Since we were early, I took the opportunity to snap as many nice photos as possible before the cakes are cut and eaten.

Mango pudding and other dessert are served on small glasses that are cute.

Here is a blueberry cheese cake with generous topping of blueberry sauce.

This is my dessert with tiramisu or coffee cheese cake on the top left corner. It was simply delicious but I did not take too much of the dessert to watch my weight.

I was in Sunway Pyramid (SP) last night and wanted to dine in a new pasta restaurant near the entrance of SP in the new wing. It is set up by Pasta de Waruku Singapore for this Japanese Casual Pasta & Restaurant. When I enter, I was told by the waitress that at the moment, it is by invitation only but nevertheless allowed us to enter as we happen to be there. She further told us that all dining is on the house.

I had crabmeat with fetucine and cocoa shake. Then we shared a green tea ice cream. There are no photos here as the batteries of my digital camera happen to be flat. What we ate was worth more than RM70 with taxes but thanks to their promotion, we dined for free. We happen to be in the right place at the right time. For those who miss out on the free dining, do not fret. You can say pay RM100 and get back RM100 dining voucher which means that you only pay half on 9th May 2008.

Today is a Saturday and it is time for my weekend hotel stay. I have not decided which hotel to stay yet, but last week, I was in Vistana Hotel in Bayan Lepas, and before that in Cititel Hotel in town. Vistana hotel is near to Max, a famous ‘tim sum’ restaurant which is always crowded with diners. I love the almost crusted fish ball and ‘har kau’. Normally I will order the ginseng with bamboo shoots tea in this new ‘tim sum’ restaurant. Cititel hotel is near to Chinese Gardenview restaurant serving delicious Chinese food. I dined here once before and the food was not too bad. It also depends on vacancy and whether is it peak season during the holidays that we are able to get a room for today.

The following is a paid review:

Jesus turned the water into intoxicating best wine at the marriage feast in Cana. Wine contains resvaratrol, a powerful antioxidant for good health. It also helps reduce the cholesterol level in your blood due to the alcohol in it. Now you can buy Absinthe alcohol for the link and order online for your alcohol. There is 100% satisfaction guaranteed and you can pay with your paypal, or use other merchant or payment gateway using your credit cards like Visa, Mastercard, etc. You can go ahead and click on the “Buy it now” button. The web site is simple and workable.

People drink alcohol to calm down the nerves and feel good. It is suitable to drink wine or alcohol after a meal. It seems white wine goes well with white meat and red wine with red meat. But you can also mix the above. There is no hard and fast rule about it. For myself, I have bought coffee liquer from Langkawi which is tax free. And I love the texture and taste of the coffee liquer which I drink now and then. Since it is very sweet, I don’t take it everyday. So why wait, check out the link above and you might find something you love.

Each time I come back from KL, I will stop in Tapah to buy about RM50 worth of fruits back home. I will buy a large pomelo, a packet of red apple custards, imported giant mangoes and sometimes some star fruits. My family loves to eat fruits which is our dessert after lunch and dinner. Fruits are rich in anti-oxidants that remove free radicals in our bodies and help prevent cancer. As they are eaten fresh, you can be sure that the vitamins are not destroyed by heat through cooking.

Last night, I had dinner in The Food Loft in Gurney Plaza. And yes, there is a statue of a brown naked woman with a violin. It was part of the decoration and the ambience looks like those of a hotel. The chairs were linen covered soft cushion. You need to get a card each person to order. Simply find your table and take note of your table reservation number. Then order your food and you need to bring your card along to be scanned by the computer for the order. Tell the cook your table number and he will bring the food to your place. After the meal, you card will be scanned again for the payment.

I did not go to Gurney Plaza for quite some time and when I dined in Food Loft last night, I noticed that there were a lot of changes to the refurbishment in the process. On the ground floor outside, there is a new restaurant called Chilis serving something like Mexican food with burgers and tortillas. It was very crowded and poor Breeks shifted further away from near the entrance did not even have a customer. Maybe it was poor planning to shift so far away and being overshadowed by the newly opened Chilis. Tonight, I am going to treat my family to Food Loft as my parents have never been there before.

We also had a bowl of sharks’ fins soup for RM20 each with genuine crab meat and sharks’ fins strips. The soup was more of a thick gravy and double-boiled.

Along with durian, mangosteen is one of the two most popular Asian fruits. However, unlike durian, mangosteen is thought to have cooling properties. The fruit of an evergreen tree native to Malaysia, the mangosteen is often available in Asian markets when in season. The ripe mangosteen is roughly the same size as a mandarin orange, with a reddish-purple rind. An interesting fact about this fruit is that there is always a flowery scab at the bottom . This is a remnant of the flower, and the number of remnant flower parts contained in the scab will tell you precisely how many segments of fruit are inside. Besides containing more fruit, those with the most segments will have fewer seeds. The fruit itself is sweet, with a texture that has been likened to a ripe plum. The fruit is sweet and succulent.

When purchasing mangosteen fruit, look for ones that are dark purple or reddish purple in color. At home, store them at room temperature and eat within a few days. Also, it’s important to remember that unlike mangos, the mangosteen can’t be frozen. Mangosteens are commonly eaten raw as a dessert. The white succulent juicy flesh is sweet and tangy as shown in my photo above.

I just love seafood mainly steamed fish, nestum butter prawns with chilly padi, black pepper crabs and scallops. Oh yes, I also love sharks’ fins soup that’s double boiled with dried scallops and abalone like Mini Buddha Jump Over the Wall. It is so delicious that even Buddha, instead of meditating for enlightenment, he could not resist the soup that he had to jump over the wall to reach and savor it. The fish is usually marble goby or white pomfret. If you notice that the fish is not so fresh, then better have it fried to kill off the stale fishy taste. Usually fishes that are fresh, are cooked by steaming which is healthier.

If you are looking to buy the very finest Goji berries, either retail or wholesale, no need to look further. Gojiberries.us import the highest quality Goji berries (Lycium Eleagnus Barbarum) direct from fertile and pollution-free valleys of the Tibetan and Mongolian Himalayas. Because they are able to buy in such large volume, they can offer you the most competitive prices. You can purchase many different types of goji berry products including dried Goji Berries, Goji Juice in both mixed and 100% pure. See amazing results eating and drinking this amazing product.

Himalayan Goji berries are considered to be the most nutritious food source on the planet. These are grown in fertile valleys in the Tibetan and Mongolian Himalayas. They are far richer in antioxidants than any other comparable food source tested by ORAC labs. The wholesale price is significantly lower than that of any competitor known. This is because they buy Goji berries in such large volume and have developed longstanding ties with their suppliers. You can also buy Goji seeds for planting and seaweed fertilizer, which complements the Goji seedlings and plants, as well.

Last night, we celebrated my dad’s 70th birthday in a seafood restaurant. As my camera batteries run out, I did not take any pictures. He ordered steamed fish with spicy sauce, bake crabs, butter prawns, vegetables soup, clams, delectable fried chicken and rice for 5 persons. The meal was delicious and tantalizing with reasonable pricings. It cost about RM120 in all which was very reasonable for seafood. Except for mom, it was dad’s treat and we each gave him RM100 in angpows totalling RM300 for his birthday.
