I couldn’t have been busier. These few months, almost everyday, I have to send in a quotation for sports courts. But as they say, you send in 100 letters, 2 letters get noticed with positive reply. That is about 2%. So from the number of quotations that I email, about 2% or so will turn out to be our clients. My company that I work for, Olympic Venture is prospering well. Every month, our workers will have something to do and able to feed their families even though they are paid daily. No work for the day, means no money coming in. Thank goodness, each month, there are 4-5 projects to be completed and that’s why I say the company is prospering.

Today is the day I am suppose to go down to Tanah Merah, Kelantan in a short while’s time. We were supposed to meet a potential client for a rubberized sports court there. He plans to build 1 court only but anyhow, we still have to drive down today. No matter the number of courts to be installed, my boss still makes it a point to see clients. As they say, ‘sedikit sedikit lama lama jadi bukit’. For my foreign readers, it means gathering money little by little, it will also be a lot in the end. So this is what happens with the present business. We are like Air Asia, cheap but plenty of customers.
Yesterday, my boss told me we may have to go to Ipoh today to meet up with a potential client for sports courts. It is a public club which contacted us through our web site. The secretary copied and pasted pictures from our web site for her boss to look through. That’s the benefit of having an online presence that does the sales marketing for us. I just updated our web site with more pictures of completed projects yesterday. Every month, we will definitely have some sports projects to install and complete to keep our workers busy all year round.
It rained last night and this morning. Boy, it was so comfortable sleeping under my silk comforter on the bed. Normally I wake up at around 7:30am but this morning, I slept a little later waking up at almost 9:00am. That is the priviledge of working from home. Anyway, after blogging for a while, I am off to faxing a quotation for a sports court in Perlis. Hopefully we can get the deal soon.
Yesterday, I was pretty busy preparing quotation for sports courts for our clients all over Malaysia. Today, I have some more to write. I did about 4 quotes yesterday for the sports courts. I guess today I shall be busy with the computer work for some time. Also my client for Virtual Assistance called me up yesterday for some internet research work to be done. At that time, I was out having dinner with my colleague. So, there will be more work that needs to be completed by the day.
I have worked for Olympic Venture – All Sports Builder since February 2004. At that time, the company was just a few people and there were few projects since we were new. Luckily, since then, the projects keep coming in and our workers have they daily paid jobs day after day. As they are paid by the day, sometimes they get worried if the company can still bring in more jobs for them to work on. Thank goodness, God has blessed this company and we have grown from strength to strength and profit to more profit.
This month, I have started work as a VA or virtual assistant for a friend in his copy writing business. It is about 4 hours a week at RM800 a month additional income for me. That amounts to RM50 an hour of work. He has sent me his excel file with income and expenditure for the net income for the month. I also need to create invoices to his clients for his copywriting business. Well, this is just a trial for 2 weeks and if it works out well, he may continue my VA services. Otherwise both parties can mutually stop it and move on. For more details of what I offer, check out Virtual Assistance from TSL Designs
Today, I shall be going to Taiping after lunch to take photos of the completed futsal courts that my company has installed. The photos will be put into the company web site for potential clients to view our reference projects. As of now, we have more than 50 pictures of various project references that we have completed since 2003 and the profile keeps growing each month. That is why the company is so blessed with plenty of projects on hand every month that sometimes we are short of labor to complete them on time. The trip to Taiping will take about 2 hours drive and probably the whole afternoon will be taken just travelling.
Yesterday, I celebrated my birthday in Jade Seafood restaurant in Sunway with my colleague. As I am still in KL, the pictures have not been transferred to the computer and are still in the digital camera. Well, basically I ordered kale with prawns, yam basket, sharks’ fins soup and baked crabs. I still owe a treat to my family when I return to Penang. And I got a few birthday wishes messages from internet and sms from my sister in China. I also just came back from a trip to Mantin, Negeri Sembilan which took about two and a half hours from Subang Jaya. I hope the visit will be fruitful and yesterday, the company got a tennis court project from one of the well known golf club in KL. I went for the meeting and my colleague did the presentation.
Yesterday, I managed to successfully booked and confirmed our flight tickets to Pengkalan Chepa Airport in Kota Bahru, Kelantan from Penang’s Bayan Lepas Airport. I booked through Firefly, a new local domestic aircraft servicing different states in Malaysia. Firefly is the only local aircraft servicing direct flights from Penang to Kelantan. If I had booked via Air Asia or Malaysian Airlines, I will have to transit south in Kuala Lumpur and then fly north again to Kota Bahru, the capital of Kelantan. It was a last minute decision, and I booked 2 days before departure on Monday tomorrow at 7:50pm from Bayan Lepas Airport in Penang and arriving 1 hour later at 8:45pm in Pengkalan Chepa Airport in Kelantan.
As I will be staying overnight in Kelantan with my colleague, I shall be returning the following evening departing from Kelantan at 9:00pm and arriving in Penang’s Bayan Lepas airport at 10:00pm. This is a ticketless booking and all that is needed is a printed form showing the confirmation number, time and date of arrival and departure. The internet has certainly served its purpose allowing booking of flights online.
After setting off at around 7:00pm after dinner yesterday, my boss drove down to Kuala Lumpur by car. It was the first time we drove down at this late evening and it was cool throughout the journey. It was also better for the car and tyres at the roads were not reflecting heat compared to the afternoon. He did not make any stopovers and we reached the rented office condo at about 12:00am. Then I went online for the location map to our client’s hotel which was very near KLIA. Just now my boss has gone in the morning to meet up with him before his departure flight for Singapore at 6:00pm.
I shall be going to Kuala Lumpur again shortly after lunch where my boss will pick me up. He will meet up with his counterpart from New Zealand who will be flying in from Thailand, stopover in Malaysia for 2 days and then wing to Singapore. Today, there are potential clients from Singapore who want to meet up with us on the same day and it clashes with out meeting with our New Zealand counterpart. So, I had to decline politely by email and hope to arrange another time with them. My boss is so very tied up with logistics and operation side of the business and he needs more workers to complete the several projects on time.
Yesterday and today, I got the proforma invoices from two separate companies in different countries. My boss will have to make telegraphic transfer payment soon to the respective banks to order and purchase the materials for the sports courts. This has to be done quickly as our clients want a fast track service in setting up the sports courts, so that they can launch their opening in June at the earliest or in July.
Business Cards comes in handy when you wish to introduce your business to new clients or acquaintances when meeting them for the first time. I have designed my own business cards, one for my web designing services, while the other is for my current job as an IT executive for a sports surfacing company. And if you are not artistically inclined and do not have the software to create your own business cards, check out the link above to have your own customized business cards.
