yee sang

I had Chinese New Year salad or ‘yee sang’ last night as we just came back from Hatyai, Thailand. According to tradition, you have to toss the ‘yee sang’ to mix up the ingredients of fresh salmon strips, ground nut powder, strips of vegetables in assorted colours like red and green, bits of jelly fish, turnip, fried strips, etc. Tossing the ‘yee sang’ also brings in good luck and prosperity. Not to boast but although the Chinese are minority race in Asia, but they are the richest in this region with many doing their own business and doing trading. As a result, some other poorer races are jealous and marginalize the Chinese because they are rich, hardworking and diligent, according to Singapore’s founding father, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. How I wish we have a Chinese leader as the prime minister of Malaysia.
