I just came back from the bank to update my savings accounts book. While I am not servicing any loans, as I don’t own a car and have already sold my 3-room HDB flat in Singapore, I still use credit cards for large amount of purchases. Credit cards come in useful when you don’t intend to carry much cash around while being able to buy that computer you always wanted. I used to pay mortgages and home insurance for my previous 3-room HDB flat while working as an executive in Singapore away from the comforts of home in Penang, Malaysia. The currency was stronger in Singapore, but with so much expenses like food, transport to travel to work and back and so forth, there was not much left. But luckily I bought some insurance policies for protection.
