Tim Sum in Penang
Every Sunday morning it is my ritual to have tim sum either in Global Bay in Batu Ferringhi or Bali Hai Tim Sum Market in Gurney Drive. I personally prefer to have my tim sum in Global Bay which opens from 10:30am if I am attending the 11:30 church service near my house. But recently I have also gone to Bali Hai’s Tim Sum Market in Gurney Drive which opens much earlier if I am attending an earlier church service in Georgetown Baptist Church at 10:30am.

Photos 1 and 4 show the wide selection or our tim sum order with lotus paste buns, red bean buns, ‘har kow’ or prawn dumpling for my overseas friends. Photo 2 is ‘lor mai kai’ or streamed brown rice with black shitake mushrooms, pork, dried prawns and Chinese sausage. Photo 3 is known as carrot cake or rice batter deep fried with some dried prawns inside. The photos are tantalizing and the tim sum tastes scrumptious. Tim Sum originated from Hong Kong and served in steamed bamboo containers as shown in the pictures above.

The photo on the left is my usual order of scallop hor fun only from Global Bay at RM5 per plate. On the right is chinese tea where you drink from small tea cups.
