MPH RM$50 Gift Voucher
Above is a scanned image of the MPH bookstore gift voucher for RM$50 that I received this morning by courier service. It came together with a letter that says, “Congratulations!! As you have been earlier informed, you have recently won a RM50 MPH Gift Voucher from an update program you participated in at the end of 2005.” Wow, I have forgotten that I did participate in the update program last year but at the back of this voucher, it comes with Terms and Conditions like:

  1. All denominations are in Ringgit Malaysia.
  2. This voucher is valid for 6 months from the date of issue.
  3. This voucher should be used on or before the expiry date.
  4. No partial redemption is allowed.
  5. This voucher will not be replaced is lost.
  6. This voucher is not exchangeable for cash.
  7. This voucher must bear two official authorized signatures.
  8. This voucher must bear the issuing branch official company stamp.

You will see from the picture above that the voucher has been post-dated from 24th January 2006 to 19th September 2006. Anyway, it is a good early Christmas present as I plan to use it to buy some nice Christian music CDs or some Christian literature.

Zoom the 2006 movie
Four kids – one big problem. They each possess a unique special power that sets them apart from everybody else their age. They also have something else in common – they just want to be normal. Now it’s up to a former superhero once known as Captain Zoom (Tim Allen) to teach them how to harness their extraordinary talents and save the world from certain destruction! If anybody can convince him to do so. This movie treat will have you in guffaws of laughter. It has been a long time since I watched superpower movies like Sky High, The Incredibles, Superman Returns and X-Men.

2CheckOut Check
Woohoo! My check arrived from 2checkout.com, a pseudo merchant account to take in credit card payment. The amount was just above USD100 since they will only send out checks or wire transfer to your bank account when you hit the USD100 minimum. The last time, I enter my bank SWIFT code for telegraphic transfer or (TT),it cost me a bomb, around USD30 for the services. The picture above shows the check and the envelope from USA. If you like to sign up for a 2Checkout account which cost only USD49 one time payment, click here.  This is the cheapest form of credit card payment online that I have found so far. If you decide to set up with a local bank, they will charge you in the region on RM50,000 onwards to have a merchant account. Well, it took more than a year of selling ebooks with the link here and some online virtual assistance from overseas clients to accummulate this amount.

Asian Spoon Restaurant
Last week during my short business trip stay in Plaza Hotel, we walked over to the opposite site of the main road to this spunky restaurant known as Asian Spoon Restaurant with a tag name “We serve Asian Comfort Food with a modern twist.” It was convenient as this place was located directly opposite our hotel and we prefer not to drive to avoid the lunch time traffic jam. Photo 1 shows the Nasi Lemak set which I ordered that comes with Tom Yam soup and a rose flavoured drink with lychee and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. The serving indeed had a ‘twist’ from the usual nasi lemak that I can have in Penang for only RM1.50 wrapped in banana leaves. This comes with dried olives or ‘kana’ and some other dried sour fruits. The set itself cost a whopping RM19.90. Photo 2 shows the ambience, Photo 3 shows the billboard outside the restaurant and Photo 4 was what my friend ordered for his lunch which was fried noodles set.

map to Asian Spoon Restaurant
Above is a map to the restaurant that was scanned from their business card. They even have a web site at www.asianspoon.com. Seems that most moderately high end restaurants in KL have websites to showcase their food and services which is the web site business era!

I came across this site with a list of Google Adsense alternatives as listed here > http://www.listible.com/list/list-of-google-adsense-alternatives  This is a comprehensive list of so many other types of money making contextual advertisements besides Adsense. It is a good alternative especially for those who have been banned by Adsense and a chance to earn some revenue again and leverage from their web sites.

And mainly because of the opportunity to earn from these contextual advertisements as pioneered by Google Adsense, blogging is all the rage nowadays. Newbies who started blogging have to know that they are in this in the long haul, and never to give up even if the visitors are few and people hardly check out the advertisement links. This is an endurance endeavour that pays in the long run and not an overnight success. Anyway, tomorrow, I will be in Bintulu, Sararak with my boss for business and back the following evening. We shall be taking Air Asia there with about 4 hours transit in Kuala Lumpur from Penang.

This is taken from my church’s adult bible study reading every Tuesday. I have renamed it from Business Failures & Problems, Financial Hardship to Business Success and Financial Freedom, because this is what it is all about. It is a paradigm shift from a mindset of poverty and failure to scriptures of success and prosperity. Just read below:

For it is the Lord my God who is going with me; He will neither fail me nor forsake me! – Deuteronomy chapter 31, verse 6. (31:6)

Lord, You will not fail me nor forsake me, until I have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.. – 1 Chronicles chapter 28, verse 20 (28:20)

“Agree with God, and be at peace; thereby good will come to me!” Yes, that is the way to mend my fortune. – Job 22 : 21

If I obey and serve Him, I shall spend my days in prosperity and my years in pleasures. – Job 36:11

Let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant. – Psalms 35:27

For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with victory. – Psalms 149:4

Yahweh will give strength to His people; Yahweh will bless His people with prosperity! – Psalms 29:11

And truly, God takes pleasure in doing me good, and all His heart and soul will be given to planting me in this land in good faith. – Jeremiah 32:41

Lord, You say……that You will cause me who love You to inherit wealth, that You will fill my treasuries. – Proverbs 8:21

I must remember that it is the Lord my God who has been giving me power to gain wealth. – Deuteronomy 8:18

Taken from September issue of Cleo magazine, there are useful tips on removing stains and other kitchen maintenance.

  • WD-40 removes the stickers you once put on your bedroom door and keeps them shiny. The oily film makes subsequent cleaning easier.
  • Remove crayon marks off walls by scrubbing with toothpaste, while white bread can dab away finger marks on walls.
  • Lemon juice removes garlic or onion odours from a chopping board.
  • Use banana skin to polish plant leaves. It’ll pick up dust and provide a shiny film on leaves.
  • White vinegar gives sparkle to mirrors, glassware and windows and makes lime scale disappear.

Penang Hill
On 10th to 11th September 2006, I went to Penang Hill for an overnight’s stay in Bellevue Hotel. I enjoyed the trip by tram up to the hill and then down again the next morning. I could see the thick tropical rainforrests and the lush greenery in this virgin jungle. The hill air was fresh and cool. Photo 1 shows the walkway towards Bellevue Hotel at the top of Penang Hill. Photo 2 shows the entrance to the station at the top. Photos 3 and 4 are taken while descending down the hill. I have also captured a short video about 7MB of the slow journey down the hill by tram. Check out below.

the death of adsense

Is Google Adsense Dead ? Well, this site seems to think so….And they have an Affiliate Program that pays you USD 50 cents everytime someone downloads the free ebook…

I just read a public domain report, that exposes the reason AdSense income sucks lately, even though every would-be “Guru” on the net is pushing AdSense products like never before!

The report is called “The Death Of AdSense” and you can just go grab it from this website.

What’s really cool is this guy also explains how he went from a few hundred dollars in AdSense income to over $50,000 a month after he gave up AdSense! He’s closing the doors on the report, so go grab one while it’s still a live link.

Little Man, the movie

Last night, I watch a most hilarious movie of the year with my friend. A wannabe dad (Shawn Wayans) mistakes a vertically challenged criminal on the run (Marlon Wayans) as his newly adopted son. In Revolution Studios’ hilarious comedy Little Man, big things come in small packages. DARRYL EDWARDS (Shawn Wayans) is so eager to become a father that he mistakes a short, baby-faced thief CALVIN SIMS (Marlon Wayans) for an abandoned toddler. He and his wife take the “baby” into their home while the thief’s partner PERCY P (Tracy Morgan) tries to help him recover a stolen diamond. Watch the part where his wife, Vanessa (Kerry Washington), a very successful corporate figure wears a stoneless diamond ring given by her jobless hubby. This cartoony comedy will thrill you from the start of the show to the end.

world's smallest monkey

This monkey is all thumb. A rare newborn albino Pygmy Marmoset monkey perching on a zookeeper’s thumb at Froso Zoo in Ostersund, Sweden. The Pygmy Marmoset, which lives in the upper Amazon basin in South America, is the world’s smallest monkey and reaches 35cm in length and weighs up to 100gm at maturity – Reuters picture.

It’s pint-size certainly attracts attention. Isn’t it cute? Wish I could see this in Sunway’s Petting Zoo. :)

Nacho Libre
Jack Black played as Nacho, a young man who was raised in a Mexican monastery and worked there as the cook. He takes it upon himself to rescue the holy place from financial ruin by joining a local ‘Lucha libre’ tournament and becoming one of the ‘luchadores’, a local Mexican term for wrestlers. Naturally, Nacho isn’t acting out of purely altruistic measures, as he wishes to help Sister Encarnacion (Ana de la Reguera), a beautiful Mexican nun who has recently arrived at the monastery, as well as the gaggle of young orphans who live there. See this movie for yourself if you like the basics of human nature and humor set in a monastery. As my dad and two younger sisters are Catholics, it is a poignant reminder of the vow of poverty that any priest and nun undertakes in their lifelong vocation. This is their religiously sacred life and they need to observe chastity. Quite a good movie and scenes were suited to subsistence life in a monastery, I must say.

North South Highway along Malaysia
From 29th to the 30th August, I went to Kuala Lumpur again for a meeting with my boss. This is my third trip to KL this month. We drove down on Tuesday evening at about 4:00 pm after my boss has cleared his work for the day. He drove down using his company car and I captured some photos along the North-South Highway. Photo 1 shows the oil palm plantation before reaching Ipoh. Along the highway, near Ipoh, there are beautiful granite hills covered with thick rain forrest trees that are evergreen all year round as shown in Photos 2 and 3, but not too clear as the car was moving at about 110km per hour or so. When it was near Ipoh, there is a long tunnel that cuts through a hill as shown in Photo 4.

Dinner at Delifrance in Jaya Jusco
When we reached Ipoh, it was about 6:30pm, in time for dinner. My boss parked his car in the free car park of Jaya Jusco, a huge shopping mall in Ipoh. We went straight to Delifrance as we don’t have it in Penang. The outlet in Penang was closed long time ago, due to stiff competition from the cheap hawkers’ food in Penang. When I was working and staying in Singapore, I will definitely order from Delifrance near the City Hall MRT station in metropolitan Singapore. Life in Singapore then was kind of lonely as everyone is only busy making money and more money to afford branded goods. As usual, I ordered a set that comes with a croissant with tuna with extra topping of egg and mushroom soup with hot tea. My boss ordered a set of peppered chicken with a croissant and his usual hot coffee without sugar and soup. In Singapore, I will order a side dish of spinash Quiche, but here in Jaya Jusco, they happened to serve Quiche Lorraine as shown in Photo 4 which is acutally egg custard with plenty of button muchrooms in a pastry. Sunway's Piramid Tower Hotel Decorations
After dinner in Ipoh, we drove further down past Tapah, Rawang, Sungai Buloh, Subang Jaya and following the road sign and directions and finally arrive in Sunway’s Piramid Tower Hotel at about 10:00pm. I helped to navigate the directions and thank goodness, we did not miss any turns or lost our way. Months ago, an overnight stay with buffet style breakfast cost about Ringgit Malaysia 230.00++. Now apparently due the peak season and the holidays just ended, the stay for 1 night for 2 persons were RM402.50 inclusive of 10% service charge and government tax. The room alone was RM350 with breakfast. Anyway, this is taken care of by company expenses. I took the liberty to capture more photos of the hotel’s ambience from the lift (Photo 1) to intricate wood carvings along the corridor (Photo 2), and even faux bananas in a transparent rectangular container (Photo3) and along the corridor, a shot near our room (Photo4). Our room number was 6152 for 6th floor and room number 152 with the directions clearly stated below the display of artificial bananas. Quite an ingenious way of remembering the ‘maze’ route to our room.

Hotel room of Piramid Tower
Upon entering the room, I quickly took snapshots of the bathroom in Photos 1 and 2. You can even see the hair dryer and a phone installed in the bathroom in Photo 2. Photo 3 shows the orange chair and dark wood table and the double single beds are depicted in Photo 4. The room has bright orange feel to it. Even the walls are painted bright orange and complemented with dark brown wood furnishings. It was time for our rest after about 6 hours drive from Penang including stopover for dinner in Ipoh for 1 hour. Sleep came naturally after a long journey.
