Trip to Plaza Hotel, Kuala Lumpur
On the 24th to 25th August, I went to Kuala Lumpur again for an informal meeting together with my boss with a client. The photos shown above numbered 2 and 3 is the scenery on the way to KL along the North-South Highway. Photo numbered 1 is the tunnel that cuts through a hill prior to reaching Ipoh. Photo numbered 4 is the view from Plaza Hotel in Kuala Lumpur in the heart of the city as we stayed on the ninth floor.

Hotel room in Plaza Hotel
Photo 1 is the basin of the wash room, Photo 2 is the cosy sofa with writing chair and table while Photo 3 is the bed, obviously. Photo 4 is the drinks area with free sachets of tea, sugar and cream powder. For a night’s stay with complimentary breakfast for two, the cost is Ringgit Malaysia 183 nett which is reasonable considering that it was the peak season coupled with school holidays.

Breakfast in Plaza Hotel
The next morning, we proceeded down to the cafe on the ground floor for our breakfast. The ambience was inviting with some selected long sofas and many choices of food preparations. Photo 1 shows the long marbled table of various dishes; Photo 2 shows the striped magenta and black sofa in a corner near the buffet breakfast spread. Photo 3 depicts the dishes ranging from nasi lemak, to scrambled eggs, half boiled eggs, sumptious nasi lemak gravy, long red beans, fried potatoes, stir-fried chinese lettuce, fried rice, fried noodles and a selection of porridge ingredients is depicted in Photo 4. All in all, I enjoyed my stay in Plaza Hotel. This coming Tuesday, I have already booked Sunway’s Piramid Tower Hotel for our next meeting again with our client in Kuala Lumpur. Stay on for more pictures to come. :)

The Ant Bully

Lucas Nickle (Zach Tyler), is a young, misunderstood by his parents, boy who is constantly picked on by the local bully and his gang who enjoy dog-piling on top of him. Naturally, he takes his anger out on the ant hill in his front yard. One day, a grotesque exterminator, Stan (Paul Giamatti) proposes to put an end to the insect problem in the yard within days and Lucas signs. The ants inside are becoming increasingly devastated, and the ant wizard, Zoc (Nicholas Cage), proposes a solution with a potion. He sneaks into Lucas’ room while he’s sleeping and shrinks him down to ant size to have him work of the damage he’s done and to learn his lesson.

Zoc’s girlfriend, Hova (Julia Roberts) leads him around the inside of the tunnels with a caring heart. Lucas learns about the lifestyle of the ants, and their fear of the wasps. He later recalls that he instructed the exterminator to destroy them all and must put an end to it before it’s too late.

This movie is about teamwork and not to be a ‘prima donna’ or to bully someone smaller your size or raining ‘yellow water’ on the ants’ hill. A very enjoyable show.

Mr Teppanyaki dinner set
On Friday Night after viewing a client’s site, I went for dinner with my boss at Mr Teppanyaki in The Mall near KLCC. We went to the basement where the food and restaurants are located. I ordered Salman Teppanyaki set while my partner ordered Seafood Soup as shown in the pictures above. My salmon teppanyaki comes with rice and miso soup. I also had a cup of warm green tea. The garlic was sliced and deep fried, something new to me and tasted crispy. I have eaten food sauteed with with julienned and finely cut up garlic. The salmon was juicy but will do better if served in thicker fillet. My boss had his seafood soup with glass noodles or ‘tang hoon’ as we call it in Hokkien. It had the usual crabstick, prawns, fish balls, etc. The ambience was all right with nice attractive banners of food pictures put up on the wall. The place is a little small but cosy. I have forgotten how much it cost as my partner took care of the bill. He’s very patient and does not mind me snapping pictures away of the food servings. All in all, the food tastes good and is value for money.

I was back from Kuala Lumpur 2 days ago on a Saturday night travelling about 400km and around KL. We were on the way back to Penang and bypassed Rawang, when an urgent phone call took us back to Port Klang to meet up with a business associate. I did not know that Tanjung Harapan has seafood restaurant and on the right turn inside, is a golf driving range.

After the necessary visits were done, we planned to go to Genting Highlands for a night, but because there was no prior reservation, there is no vacancy during this school holiday season. I called up Genting Resort Hotel and all the hotels were fully booked, even Awana Genting where we used to stay last time.

In KL, we planned to get Sunway Piramid Tower but it also fully booked and we tried Grand Central near KLCC and some Puteri Pacific, (if I am not wrong) all proved futile. Finally we found Wira Hotel which is nearby and deep inside the road that is not too obvious. For more details, go to www.wirahotel.com.my Thank goodness, we finally found our accommodation even for one night. That’s the hassle of last minute decision but when it comes to business, it is unavoidable.

I booked two return tickets for 22nd September through www.AirAsia.com to Bintulu, Sarawak. The system is user friendly in terms of looking for the air fare through a certain date. Since there is no direct flight from Penang to Bintulu, I have to book additional flight from Penang to Kuala Lumpur and then from Kuala Lumpur to Bintulu. The amount for Penang to KL for return tickets (to destination and back from destination) for two persons cost RM199.96 but the air port tax cost an exhorbitant RM160.00 for 2 persons, almost the same price as the air fare. For the double return air fare from KL to Bintulu, the amount was RM399.96 with the costly air port tax of RM260. Air port taxes seems to have cost us quite a substantial amount in relation to the air charges.

Before entering my credit card details, I have to ensure that the handphone number stated is prefixed by 60 for Malaysian code, otherwise the system will not move on to the next page for online payment. Also ensure that there is no dash or spaces in the handphone number. After verification, then I can print my tickets which show all the booking details. Other than the costly air port tax, AirAsia.com is very convenient and my flight to Bintulu is confirmed.

Incidentally, yesterday’s Star reported that the haze level in Bintulu reached 107. This is considered unhealthy level if the air pollution index (API) show a figure above 100. Hopefully, when I reach Bintulu next month, the rain will clear up the sky and open forest burning in Kalimantan will reduce.

Early tomorrow morning, I will follow my boss to Kuala Lumpur to see a site. He will drive down as usual and I hope for a smooth journey without being caught for speeding. Anyway, my boss rarely exceeds 120km/hour, the speed limit and for those reading this blog, be informed that there is a camera speed trap on the overhead highway near Bukit Merah’s junction. We tend to slow down even more on approaching this area and 15 minutes down the road, you will usually find police road block to check for the drivers caught speeding.

Garfield 2 - His Majesty is Back

Last night, I watched Garfield 2 – His Majesty is Back. In this movie, the world’s favourite feline begins his very own British Invasion and creates havoc on the entire United Kingdom. He travels across the pond with canine friend, Odie, to surprise his master, Jon Arbuckle (Breckin Meyer), who is in London to propose to his veterinarian girlfriend Liz Wilson (Jennifer Love Hewitt).

As befitting an adventure worth of a feline phenomenon, Garfield manages to switch places with Prince, a royal cat who has just inherited a castle. Watch for Garfield’s antics and tricks to save his mirror-image friend, Prince who’s life was in danger. An excellent movie, I would say.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and  disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Click movie starring Adam Sandler

Last night I saw this grossly humorous show with my friend. In Click, Sandler plays a family man work works as an architect Michael Newman who does not seem to be able to find the correct tv remote control and too busy for his family – his beautiful wife played by Kate Beckinsale and the two kids. Suddenly, he is given a remote control that allows him to control his universe. As with all amazingly good things, the benefits only lasts a short while before things start to go wrong. Check out the funny antics of the different dogs with a large dog-size yellow soft toy. Sandler’s forte in most of his movies is to make people laugh, notwithstanding how the film explore the basics of human nature.

This is taken from New International Version of the Bible in First Thessalonians chapter 1, verses 1 to 17.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances, you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues, put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymms and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Crocs Clog Shoes
Which is the real pair of the three Crocs Clog Shoes above? The other two are copies of the original from USA and are made in China. :) These are my collection of clog shoes which were made popular in Denmark. It is hard to tell the difference but the ones on the left in khaki is the real pair costing RM129 from Gurney Plaza’s Parkson stores. The other two of baby pink and fancy blue are bought at only RM19.90 from Bukit Jambul’s ground floor shop lot next to the rest room. When the Crocs shoes were first introduced in the market, I thought they were ugly and out-of-the-ordinary. However, they are now in fashion and the in-shoes to wear.

It all started when my partner walked tip-toe just for fun to make himself look taller (he is the same height as me and considers himself short for a man, but rather muscular due to weight lifting) while walking arm-in-arm with me. In the process, I accidentally kicked on his shoes and one of my toe nails bled a little. I guess he felt sorry, and decided to buy the Crocs shoes for me as I needed a close-toe-shoe to protect my injured nail. It was an impromptu buy as we happened to walk near the Crocs display and that is why I chose khaki so that it matches easily with my beige pants and top. After wearing it for some time, I found that not only is it very light and easy on the heels, but very confortable as well with several holes for ventilation. Furthermore, I am not in the habit to wear high heels.

If you have seen Victoria Beckhams’s severely deformed triangular toes due to wearing 6-inch stilettoes, you would be put off wearing heels for the rest of your life. She definitely needs surgery to correct her toes’ alignment. Heels look good but they are not good for long distance walking. Hence, the khaki Crocs were compliments from my friend, while the copies were purchased yesterday while waiting for my partner as he went to the loo. Now that I have three different colors, I can match them anytime with white pants.

If you are curious just how many colors are available for the genuine Croc clog shoes, go to this web site http://www.crocs.com/home.jsp  You can use them as beachwear, casual wear and even for meetings provided more subdued and conservative colors are chosen like dark brown, off white or grey. The other fancy colors available are shocking pink (fuschia), chilly red, bright green, lemon yellow, navy blue, purple, sky blue, coral pink, bright orange and dark chocolate.

A chat with an online friend lead me to this link here https://chitika.com/support/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=viewdownload&downloaditemid=8  As you can see, below this post is the Chitika eMiniMalls that was successfully installed. It is quite easy and the Chitika icon will appear on the WordPress Admin Write Post toolbar. The internet is really an ocean of all the technical help and wonders I can find. Maybe the revolution of the Internet should be known as the 8th Wonder of the World.

It has always been my dream to see Europe for myself and experience Mt. Titlis in Switzerland’s snow-capped mountains and taking the cable car there as viewed in my ex-classmate’s photos of his business trip there long time ago. My second sister was there for a 3 month-holiday learning Finnish and even taking tests while staying at her friend’s place. She has sent beautiful countryside photos by email and if opportunity allows, I shall visit there one day. My sister’s direct flight from Finland to Singapore and then reached Penang at about 12.45am this morning.

My sister is also a ’stringer’ for The Star or a freelance  writer. She prefers the flexibility to work anytime instead of a rigid 9:00am  -5:00pm office hours. While in Finland, she also wrote an article about this beautiful country and met up with the ambassador’s wife which was published in The Star some time ago. For her privacy, I do not wish to disclose her name but most of her articles are usually printed in The Star Metro. She has also sampled delicious local food for the ‘Food Review’ articles.

It is good to have the whole family back home again.

The Break Up

Last night, I saw this movie with my friend starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaunghn with plenty of quarrels and arguments and each trying to get the one-upmanship over the other with their friends and relatives siding each team. This show is ‘cathartic’ for Aniston especially for her since her real break up from Brad Pitt who starred in ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’, which I also viewed some time ago and very passionate with high action impact of both couple who are paid assasinators and later paid to target each other. If you miss this show, you can still buy the DVDs and view it at home. If you enjoy lots of quarrels and arguments, then this movie ‘The Break-Up’ is for you. There were some comic scenes of implied ‘Artistic nudity’ though.

As printed in The Straits Times recently, Probiotics are strains of good bacteria which help keep a healthy balance of microflora in the digestive tract while inhibiting or controlling intestinal pathogens which can make you ill. Stress, exposure to new bacteria while travelling, antibiotic treatment and old age affect this delicate balance. According to Dr Mouton, “Probiotics are very save, they can be given to anyone, anyhow with no danger of drug interactions or overdosage. You can prescribe them to the elderly, lactating mothers, infants and even premature babies.”

They are also for those whose immune system has been severely compromised. Dr Mouton is all for prevention when it comes to diarrhoea from taking antibiotics and while travelling. “Two capsules a day will prevent diarrhoea from antibiotics, three hours before you take antibiotics. Try to take them half an hour before meals but you can also take them after.”

I have a relative who falls sick whenever she has insufficient sleep, and always taking antibiotics which not only kills both the good and bad bacteria but also supposedly reduces the white blood cells that gobbles up germs. So she has been advised by my mother who used to be a nursing sister to take probiotics regularly. Maybe I will also try it.
